Vital Signs podcast is a great tool for outdoor instructors
Yesterday, I had a great refresher on soft tissue injuries thanks to Vital Signs podcast. Vital Signs “is a series of online courses designed to satisfy continuing education hours for EMS providers through high quality distance-based training”. I highly recommend this podcast to any outdoor instructor looking for a refresher in the emergency medical field prior to teaching an expedition course, especially if you took your WFR a while back. Happy new year! Goals for 2010
Happy new year to all my friends and outdoor educators! I hope this new year is full of adventure and learning. This year I hope to:
- Develop the outdoor instructor wiki - outdoorinstructors.pbworks.com
- Develop the outdoor instructor social site – outdoorinstructors.ning.com
…and continue doing quality programing, consulting and personal expeditions with my new family addition.
What are your goals for this year?

Outdoor Instructors Post-Season Tips
1. Make sure you make time to renew your Wilderness First Responder
2. Get some friends together and go on a personal expedition.
3. Challenge yourself the same way you challenge your students! Your challenge might be to learn a computer program like Adobe Dreamweaver or to participate in a public hearing.
4. Look for gear sales. Local retail stores and online sites are having amazing sales during the off season.
5. Swap services. Let’s say you are a kayaker, show someone effective paddling stroke and in exchange have them teaches you or give you something you want.
